These unbelievable fish of the deep waters of Ontario are one of the most interesting fish species to be found. When caught they put on a fight that any angler will remember for a lifetime, to catch them consistently requires skill, knowledge and patience, it has often been said that once you get the lake trout fever you will be obsessed for a lifetime with the thrill of fishing for them. In the spring they come to the surface with the water temp and are able to be caught about anywhere on small tackle, we often call them a bonus fish as you never know where or when you will catch them. In the summer they are in very deep water and are a challenge to find and catch, vertical jigging or down riggers are the way to go. When you catch one, watch out, the fight out of that water some 60 foot down or more is a thrill one never forgets. In the fall they return again to the shallows for the spawning season and they are at their prime when you catch them right off the shallow rocks in which they spawn. The fight they give in the fall when caught will amaze the most veteran fisherman. Once you really try lake trout fishing you will be hooked yourself and will be obsessed with waiting for you next trip to Canada to catch another of these beauties of the deep. Welcome to Conifer Lake Outpost
Recently built, this deluxe outpost lies 40 miles northwest of our base (20 minute flight), and offers you superb Ontario lake trout fishing and walleye, smallmouth bass,and northern pike fishing. This large 2 bedroom cabin, with its knotty pine interior has running water, showers, 4 burner stove with oven, 2 refrigerators, propane barbecue on the deck, deluxe wood heater and all cooking utensils to ensure your vacation is complete.
Ready to go at our dock are newer 14' boats outfitted with excellent running motors, boat seats, paddles, nets, anchors and ample supplies of gas for your stay. For the adventurous, a short walk puts you into Black Velvet Lake, loaded with fast walleye and northern action.
WHY JULY AND AUGUST ARE OFTEN BEST
This time of year is often most popular with our guests. Weather is more stable and fishing is more consistent because of fewer cold fronts moving through. Some lakes really turn on at this time of year and as an added plus, there are fewer bugs. A great time to bring the family or group.
