Excellent Adventures 2005 Newsletter

Hello from the North!

Finally getting our News Letter out for the 2005 season. We did not forget about it, we have been busy. Currently we are on the road doing trade shows. So far we have attended  6 and have 1 to go. The shows have been well attended and we are getting  a lot  of good response from them. Also we have been able to visit with some of our guests, which we always enjoy.

Our winter has been quite enjoyable. The temps have been very nice this past winter, with some days on the plus side. We have about 2 feet of snow.  The sun is getting stronger each day and so that tells us that the fishing season will soon be upon us. Something we always look forward to.

First off we would like to mention the loss of our good friend and a super guide, Mickey. He had worked with us for about the last 15 years, did shows with Faron and looked after a number of the guests out at the outposts fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by all.

Now for some good news, we have a new grandson born in November, his name is Carsyn Robert.  Faron calls him an up and coming float pumper . We are blessed.
To get on with the happenings around camp. We finally got Sumach sided with log siding,  It looks great.  We have plans for a new wider walk way at that camp and oh to mention we finally have an indoor toilet hooked up.  Papaonga Outpost got a huge new dock.  Headwaters received new mattresses. There is indoor plumbing at 4 of the 6 outposts now. Another new service that we are introducing is that we will have generators at all the outposts this year for those of you who require a charge for your depth finder or camera batteries.  Like last season we are offering the use of the Satelite Phone for all our guest that are out in the bush. I know that some of you want to get away from the modern world but it is great for peace of mind.

We had a busy summer with just the general up keep and keeping the places up. At the main base we now have  overnight accommodations . Our guests really like the fact that we have a place to overnight now at the base. Just to remind everyone we do have extra fridges for your convenience if you need refrigeration or freezer service overnight before you flyout.

We had a great summer weather wise. A few bad storms blew thru. We really got hit bad at the base in the fall. It blew for 2 days. It took out our big floater dock that we have at the end of the main dock, so Faron will be busy with that this spring before we open.

Our moose hunt went well, the weather was perfect for those who indulged. The biggest rack came off of Kinaso, a 57" rack by William Pim and Ron Peterson both from Minnesota. Also to mention Ronnie Stumpf and his sonin law Brian Godsen.  Brianxs first time hunting moose they took out a 51" rack from Hisson Lake.

The water levels on the outposts  lakes were about normal all summer.

We have always promoted conservation limits for years on the lakes. Historically the fishing has only been better over the years. This year we have asked that Conifer and  Sumach are conservation limits only. This will help us preserve the fishing in those lakes for years to come.  The no trophyxs out policy has been paying off. We have many mentions from our guests of the nicer catches and some nice trophyxs being caught and released.

We always like to take this opportunity to says Thanks! and  let you how much we greatly appreciate you choosing  Excellent Adventures  for  your fly in vacation.

Best wishes,

Faron  & Joyce Buckler

GREETINGS!.....To Our Friends

We would like to Thank everyone who visited Excellent Adventures this past summer Your support  is what helps us continue to have successful seasons. 2004 has been another great year for us at Excellent Adventures. We are always trying to improve the quality of your fishing experience and we are grateful for the positive feedback that we have received and appreciate any comments or suggestions that you might have.

As many of you know we now offer a fly in American Plan Lodge on Trout Lake . This is really nice giving our guests the choice to choose to have someone else prepare their meals, maybe guide them or if they want to treat their wives  to a fly in trip without having to rough it, this is the place. Also the lodge  makes a great place to perhaps combine business with pleasure for your company.  Those of you that have met Carmen & Colin our daughter and soninlaw will understand our excitement with our plans of having them on board with us this coming season. Colinxs pilot and great handyman skills will be an asset for the outposts and Carmenxs knowledge of our operation and her office skills in the tourism sector will be a great help.

This year the fishing season started off with a snow storm May 12th,  imagine? The Whitson group from Missouri recommends that  we get better snow shovels at the outposts. It lasted for 3 days. It was the summer that never happened. This past season had to be the windiest and wettest on record. The overall temps for the summer were cool with way above average rainfall. The high water at the outpost caused all kinds of problems. Docks were under water and levels on some of the lakes were almost up to the cabin.  Even at the main base it was a concern of ours, we ended up moving our dock shed off the dock and could not use the big floating dock at the end due to the water almost being over the main dock. Most of the summer was spent doing repairs and maintenance to all of the outposts ...general upkeep and improvements and fixing docks while dealing with the high water.

Overall the fishing was still exceptional as always at the outpost lakes, probably due to the cooler water temps and many people still really enjoyed there vacation in spite of the weather.  Fishing on all our lakes continues to improve each year probably due to the conservation policies that we implemented.

The moose hunt this fall was slow the first week because of the warm weather  but really turned around the second week when it cooled down. We had some real nice bulls taken again this year. Our largest being  on Hisson Lake, a  respectable 55x by Ron and Mike from Red Wing, Minn. Jerry Kopatzxs 54x bull was real nice  and Ed Ruebin at Headwaters Lake also got a  43x bull.

We continue to upgrade our web site and are planning a major overhaul of it in January . Also this year we are including a satellite phone with each package at the outpost. We think it is imperative because of the remoteness that our guests be able to contact us immediately  if a problem should arise. Also we are continuing to replace our equipment  making sure you have new outboard motors at most of the outpost this year.  We are happy to announce that we now will have overnite accommodations here at the float plane base in Ear Falls.  Just let us know when you book if you need a room for the night before you fly out.  We  also now accept MasterCard and Visa for final payment.

Joyce's  recipe for this year: Poor Man's Lobster.

Cut your fish into chunk size pieces, as many as needed to feed your group. In 8 cups of boiling water add  4 tablespoons of pickle juice. Carefully put the fish pieces into the water. Donxt overcrowd them. Cover and return to a boil till fish is firm and flakes (about 2 minutes), remove the fish from the water and drain. Serve with warm melted butter for dipping. Enjoy!

We wish you a prosperous and safe 2005

Hope to see you next year
Cheers,
Faron, Joyce and staff,

And remember whatever vacation you decide to take we hope it is an Excellent Adventure.......

SEASONS GREETINGS!! from Faron, Joyce and the Staff at Excellent Adventures

Hello  to all our Southern friends again . It's that time of year  when our guests  thoughts start wondering north and they start planning their vacation for the coming summer. So as in the past we would like to take this opportunity to give you an update on items hopefully of some interest to our past and future guests of Excellent Adventures. The past season again turned out to be our busiest by far even though cross border traffic was at an all time low. Less than normal amounts of snowfall in our area  the past winter started the season off with below normal water levels. At our floatplane base in Ear Falls Lac Seul water levels were 6x below normal until September causing us to have to buoy our airplanes on the far side of the bay at night to protect them from the weather and meaning alot more work for the pilots and dockhands. The outpost lakes were all  slightly lower  but were back to normal by the first week of July. Fishing  continued to improve this past season despite the low water levels  and partially due  to the amount of people that are taking advantage of our conservation fishing license that we have been including in our packages. This coming season we are also implementing a xNO BASS OUTx policy on Sumac and Conifer lakes. Each year  large trophy size bass are caught and released in these 2 lakes our largest  this past season weighed in at 6 3/4 # caught  by Ross Sherman  on Sumach in August. If you came to Canada this summer you probably noticed the lack of mosquitoes  because of the dry spring we had.  By July our water levels had returned to normal on our outpost lakes and we had one of the nicest August and early Septembers we can remember. Late September brought drizzle and snow for 10 days slowing our early moose hunters production slightly, although Headwaters and Brownstone produced our largest moose this year with racks in the 45x range.

About Excellent Adventures

Excellent Adventures operates a Commercial Air Service for our clients. It includes Dehavilland Dhc-3 Otter, Beech 18 and a Cessna 185 aircraft. We also utilize an Aeronca Champ for maintaining and servicing the Outpost Camps. Established in 1990, Excellent Adventures operates six exclusive outpost camps on remote wilderness fly-in only lakes. Five of these are within a 40 minute flight of our Ear Falls float-plane base. Along with fully modern cabins with indoor plumbing we also offer our clients lakes with choices of 6 different species of fish. Whether you are looking for trophy fishing or a lake that offers action packed days, we have it all .

Our fishing is simply World Class. When we began managing our lakes almost twenty years ago, policies were implemented to preserve the productivity of our fisheries. While guests are allowed to bring limits home from most of our lakes they must pay attention to there specific lake policies. All of our lakes have a strict 'No Trophies Home' policy to insure our fisheries remain the quality that makes our guests return year after year. This also includes the policies of 'Catch and Release, consumption of smaller fish only' at our Headwaters Trophy Outpost. Modern ‘life like’ replicas of your trophy fish can be made by today's expert taxidermists from a good photograph and just taking two measurements. We also expect our guest to review and practice proper fish handling to insure that fish returned to the lakes will remain healthy and contribute to next years production. All these lakes are superior in habitat for game fish. They all have flowage through them and the constant supply of water delivers the nutrients that support the food chain that in turn feeds the fish with a never ending supply of prey.

Today with our policies that the trophy fish are returned to the waters unharmed and the spawning population of female fish will grow it assures that these world class lakes maintain there high quality for the next generation of fishermen to enjoy.
